Lafayette wins 10U girls’ state volleyball championsh­ip

The city of Lafayette would like to congratula­te our 10-yearold and under girls’ volleyball team — the Lafayette Beast — for winning the Georgia Recreation and Park Associatio­n (GRPA) state championsh­ip in Carrollton, Nov. 8-9.

The Lafayette Beast was matched up against a team from Bartow County as the two teams closed out the GRPA state tournament. Lafayette was able to bring home the win with a close final match score of 25-23.

Lafayette began its league season in the second week of

September with three teams in its age group.

The Lafayette Beast took home first place in the league behind head coach Cherie’ Tinklepaug­h. Second place in the league was awarded to the Blazing Ramblers. led by head coach Kaila Mast, while third place went to the Lafayette Ramblers and their head coach Amanda Samples.

After the league season ended, all three teams collective­ly joined the Lafayette Beast team and went on to challenge for the GRPA state championsh­ip.

The team practiced after their regular season ended after a two-day season tournament on Oct. 28-29.

The GRPA state championsh­ip team consists of Amelia Bumgarner, Ella Donahue, Cheyenne Jackson, Payton Mast, Addison Mcnabb, Kennedy Mcnabb, Lillie Mullaly, Annabelle Penland, Callie Samples, Kaylee Tate, Caydence Tinklepaug­h and Sophie Tinklepaug­h. They were led by head coach Cherie’ Tinklepaug­h and assistant coach Richard Tinklepaug­h.

The team will be recognized at the Lafayette City Council meeting in December and a championsh­ip banner will be placed in the Lafayette Recreation Center gym.
