Ridgeland’s Barrett named to state’s All-academic team

Ridgeland senior tight end Kendall Barrett was named to the 2019 scoutsmart Allacademi­c Team for the state of Georgia last week.

The scoutsmart team is made up of players from all over the state in every classifica­tion. Region 6-AAAA had two players named as Northwest Whitfield junior linebacker Jordan Mccamish was also selected for the squad.

Co-ed adult volleyball league forming

The Catoosa County Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a co-ed adult volleyball league from Jan. 7-March 17.

All matches will be played on Tuesday nights at the Keith Gym (2803 Keith Road, Ringgold). Each team will be guaranteed eight matches during the season and a spot in a single-eliminatio­n postseason tournament.

Registrati­on fee is $115 per team and teams may register through Dec. 20. There will be a captains’ meeting on Dec. 19. For more informatio­n, call (706) 891-4199.

CCPR Nerf play

The Catoosa County Parks and Recreation Department will be holding a free Nerf Play Day on Jan. 3 at the Keith Gym (2803 Keith Road, Ringgold). Individual­s can register for a 30-minute slot at catoosarec.com.

Play times will be 9:3010:30 a.m. for ages 5-7, 10:3011:30 a.m. for ages 8-10 and 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for ages 11-up. Groups of 10 or more can register for a group slot starting at 2 p.m.

All equipment will be provided. Nerf guns and ammunition brought from home will not be permitted.

The CCPR is also offering Nerf war parties for children ages 5-up at the Keith Gym. The maximum amount for each group is 24.

The cost is $150 for one hour of play and 45 minutes of party time. Tables and chairs will be provided, but not food or party goods.
