GENERALS

-

Lafayette boys 58, Heritage 53

The top-seeded Ramblers led 24-16 at halftime in Friday’s semifinal and led by as many as nine in the third quarter. However, the Generals would begin to chip away at the lead late in the period and got a 3-pointer by Kiniry just before the final horn sounded to bring the Navy-and-red to within three points at 37-34.

Lafayette stretched out their advantage to 10 midway through fourth, but Heritage refused to go quietly. A trey by Snyder with 46 seconds to go chopped the Ramblers’ lead down to five, but Heritage was unable to connect on either one of its next two possessions and two final Lafayette free throws would seal the victory.

Collins scored half of his game-high 24 points in the fourth quarter for Heritage (12-15), who was slated to face Pickens in the thirdplace game on Monday of this week. Kiniry finished with 11 points and Terry added seven. Snyder finished with five, while Swope, Kennedy and Mcalister all finished with two points apiece.

Terry and Mcalister were named to the All-region team.

Lafayette girls 59, Heritage 25

The fifth-seeded Lady Generals took an early 7-0 lead in last Monday’s tourney opener, but fourth-seeded Lafayette would right the ship and dominate the next two quarters of play on its way to the victory.

Lauren Mock had seven points to lead the Lady Generals (7-19). Gracie Murray finished with six points and Sydnee St. John added five. Three by Riley Kokinda and two each from Katy Thompson and Brooke Matherly rounded out the scoring for the Navy-and-red, whose season came to a close.

Murray earned All-region honors for the Lady Generals.
