Heritage teams break through in region openers

The Heritage Lady Generals picked up their first Region 6-AAAA victory of the season with a 3-0 decision at Ridgeland last Tuesday night.

Heritage led 1-0 at halftime after Brooke Fairchild scored off an assist by Haleigh Nichols in the 26th minute.

They made it 2-0 just two minutes into the second half as an Anna Boley pass found the foot of Allison Craft, who knocked it home. Boley tacked on the final goal with 15 minutes remaining, stealing a pass before lofting a shot into the top part of the net.

Lindsay Connell had one save for the Lady Generals.

Ridgeland fell to 2-2-3 overall and 0-1 in region play.

In the nightcap, the two teams put on a defensive battle with Heritage claiming a 1-0 win.

The only score of the night coming with just over two minutes left before intermissi­on as Gauge Sartin tracked down a long through-ball, got behind the Panther defense and beat a diving attempt by Ridgeland keeper Will Voyles.

Mason Sherrill got the shutout in goal for the Generals, while Voyles had an excellent game in goal for Ridgeland (5-1-1, 1-0), including several outstandin­g saves.

Pickens

The Lady Generals improved to 4-1-1 overall and 2-0 in Region 6-AAAA play with a dominant victory at Pickens on Friday night.

Carol Anne Giannamore assisted Boley on the first goal of the match in the 16th minute. Three minutes later, Boley scored again, this time off a feed from Mady Terry, and Boley would return the favor on a goal by Terry with three minutes left before halftime.

Pickens cut the gap to 3-1 on a penalty kick 13 minutes into the second half, but the Lady Generals would score the last six goals to run away with the win.

Boley found the back of the net three more times to finish with five on the night. Alyssa Boley scored on a free kick from 40 yards out and Mckenna Bialecke scored twice in the final 10 minutes. Giannamore finished with three assists on the evening, Terry added another assist in the second half and Emma Tennyson was credited with one assist.

Connell got the win in net for Heritage.

In the boys’ game, Heritage went into halftime tied 1-1, but allowed four secondhalf tallies in a 5-2 loss to the Dragons. The Generals fell to 1-1-3 overall and 1-1 in region play. Individual scoring had
