Lafayette doubles up Adairsvill­e in final pre-region tune-up

The Lafayette Ramblers turned three double plays, including the final one with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning, to preserve a 4-2 victory over Adairsvill­e last Tuesday night at the Lake Point Complex in Emerson.

Lafayette scored solo runs in the first, second, fourth and seventh innings as the Ramblers won for the fourth time in their last five tries following a 0-3 start to the season.

Davis Richardson had two hits, including a double, to go with one RBI. Nick Adams was 2 for 3, while Trent Currie and Skylar Cepeda both had a hit and an RBI.

Currie got the win on the mound. He pitched three innings of two-hit ball, allowing just one earned run with two walks and one strikeout. Levi Pettigrew got the final two outs to record the save. Dylan Deering had four strikeouts in two innings of relief, while Blake Mann had one strikeout in 1.1 innings of work.

Murray County 7, Lafayette 4

Locked in a 3-3 tie after four complete innings, the Ramblers gave up four runs in the top of the fifth inning and eventually dropped a 7-4 home decision to the

Indians on Saturday.

The Ramblers had just four hits on the day — all singles — by Richardson, Mann, Pettigrew and Cepeda. Richardson, Cepeda and Case Davis were all credited with RBI’S.

Richardson pitched four innings. He gave up three runs, though only two were earned, on four hits with three strikeouts. Mann threw one inning of relief. All four runs he allowed were unearned and he gave up two hits and one walk. Pettigrew gave up a hit and two walks in two innings of work with one strikeout.

Lafayette (4-5) was slated to begin its Region 6-AAAA slate with a three-game series against Northwest Whitfield this week.
