- SPORTS|SHORTS From staff reports

Two former local prep baseball stars were recently honored with weekly awards by the Southeastern Conference.

Gordon Lee alum Tucker Bradley was named the SEC’S Player of the Week for the final week in February. The junior outfielder hit .412 (7 for 17) with eight runs scored, one double, three homeruns and nine RBI’S in leading Georgia to a 4-0 week and sweep of rival No. 17 Georgia Tech.

Bradley had a three-run homer in a win over Tech in Athens, scored three times and belted a solo homer in a shutout victory over the Jackets in Atlanta and had three more hits in the final game of the series in Lawrenceville.

Former Heritage General Cole Wilcox was named as the SEC’S Co-pitcher of the Week for the same time frame. The sophomore recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts and matched his career-high with seven scoreless innings in the 12-0 win at Georgia Tech. Wilcox gave up just three hits, did not walk a batter and retired 14 straight hitters at one point.

It was the Bulldogs’ first shutout on the Georgia Tech campus since 1964.
