NACA to host coaches retreat this summer

- By Scott Herpst

The National Association of Christian Athletes (NACA) will be hosting their first annual coaches retreat, July 30-Aug. 1, at the Fort Bluff Campus in Dayton, Tenn.

NACA Assistant Director David Stephenson said that the retreat is designed to encourage and minister to coaches the way the organization has mentored and encouraged student-athletes over the last 40 years.

“Average stats now show us that coaches only stay in coaching for about seven years,” he explained. “We need to figure out why that is and do everything that we can to help them stay in it longer. The world needs a lot of good, Christian coaches, especially now and especially longer than seven years.”

The retreat will be open to any coach, male or female, in any sport.

“It’s not going to be an X’s and O’s thing,” Stephenson continued. “It’s going to be more for spiritual encouragement, but we are going to have workshops that will deal with athletic administration type of stuff. We’ll also have (workshops) that deal with social media, the changing culture, finances, marketing and dealing with parents. We’re going to have a lot of folks up there as guest speakers who be talking about a wide variety of topics.”

The cost will be $125 per person for onsite lodging at Fort Bluff or $75 per person for those wishing to commute each today to the campus.

Registration and a detailed schedule of events for the retreat can be found at nacasports.org.
