Showdown in District 3 Incumbent Cutler and challenger Hullander face off Aug. 11 for County Commission seat
August 11 is the last day to decide who will represent Catoosa County’s District 3 on the Board of Commissioners. The candidates in this runoff race are incumbent Jim Cutler, who is serving his third term as a commissioner, and Catoosa County Coroner Vanita Hullander, who has served in that position for 24 years.
We asked the candidates two questions: Why should people vote for you and why shouldn’t they vote for your opponent. Here are their answers.

Why vote for me? I’ve had 12 years experience as a commissioner; I’m conservative, honest and trustworthy; I return calls from constituents; I and the commission have overseen tremendous growth for the county; we’ve replenished the county’s rainy day fund and brought in new businesses; we don’t spend foolishly; our revenue exceeds our expenditures; I’m proud of the endorsements I’ve received; we’ve had 110 miles of roads repaired and/or repaved.
Why not vote for my opponent? Lack of experience.
Vanita Hullander
Why vote for me? I can’t be controlled, bought, manipulated or bullied; I’ve served the county well

for the last 24 years and utilized my elected position to help with a lot of social problems in the county; I’ve always been a team player; I have years of leadership experience; I have years of business experience with the businesses my husband and I own; I will get our infrastructure problems taken care of so we can attract more business; I stand on principles and will represent District 3 and the entire county with dignity and respect; I’m a true conservative who will keep property taxes low and will never try to sneak in a new tax.
Why not vote for my opponent? He’s become stale over the years and does not have the citizens’ interests at heart.

Only those who voted the Republican ticket or didn’t vote at all in the June 9 primary can vote in this run-off. There is no Democrat run-off.
Early voting is July 20-Aug. 7, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (except Thursday, Aug.6, which is 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
Early voting locations are Freedom Center, 5238 Evitt St., Ringgold; Westside Voting Precinct, 3319 Lakeview Drive, Rossville.
Final election Day is Aug. 11. People must vote at their assigned precincts on this day. Voting hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
