Lakeview girls earn road win at Saddle Ridge

After weeks of waiting, the Saddle Ridge Lady Mustangs finally opened the 2020-2021 varsity season last Tuesday and jumped out to a 7-4 lead on visiting Lakeview after the first quarter.

However, the Lady Warriors would score nine unanswered points in the second quarter and go on to a 30-18 win in the NGAC contest.

Christen Collins had 14 points for the Lady Warriors, leading all scorers in the game. Marissa Moreland was next with six and Micha Valdes added four in the win. Two points each by Hope Alexander, Mercedes Thompson and Brylee Pritchett rounded out the scoring.

Saddle Ridge got 10 points from Avery Jenkins, followed by four from Alivia Hughes and three from Emilee Fountain on a basket from long range. Maddie Underwood had one point, while Ryleigh Ramey, Raven Yancy and Macee Casteel were noted by head coach Daniel Scoggins for their defense.

Lakeview boys 60, Saddle Ridge 22

The Warriors scored 30 points in the third quarter to break open the game and cruise to victory.

Rayshawn Mcgruder had 10 of his 16 points in the third quarter to pace the Warriors. Rashad Rachel had 14 points and Zyan Eastman finished with 10.

Chandler Harris knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and finished with eight points. Carson Goff finished with six points and Jared Mitchell added four. Champion Bowman had three points and A.J. Stout rounded out the scoring with one point.

Seventh-grader Hayden Bowman, playing in his first varsity game, led all scorers with 17 points for the Mustangs, including five 3-pointers. Cooper Kellett finished with three points and Trey Pearson added two.

Gordon Lee girls 38, Lafayette 14

The Lady Trojans pulled away in the second and third quarters and earned last Tuesday’s home win behind 14 points from Tenslee Wilson and eight from Abby Logan.

Also scoring for Gordon Lee was Charlsie Mcelhaney with five, Macartney Angel with three, and E.G. Hixon,

Kyleigh Custer, Jenny Beth Freeman and Josie Lewis with two apiece.

The Lady Ramblers got a team-high five points from Ella Webb. Emma Parker, Emma House, Gracie Headrick and Zoey Day each added two points and Kylia Van Pelt chipped in with one.

Lafayette boys 31, Gordon Lee 27

Down 20-10 at halftime, the Ramblers outscored the host Trojans in the second half, 21-7, to rally for the victory in the nightcap.

Isaiah Mckenzie went for 16 points for the Orange-andBlack. Shi’ray Walker was next on the list with six points on a pair of threes, followed by Khalas Finley with five points and Kole Worley with four.

Parker Scott had eight points and six rebounds for the Trojans. Sam Sartin finished with seven points to go with six rebounds, three blocks and two steals, while Layne Parrish scored four points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

Three points each by Ty Thompson and Aiden Goodwin, along with two from Sam Phillips, rounded out the scoring for Gordon Lee.

Heritage girls 48, Rossville 4

The Lady Generals took the win in last Tuesday’s opener

behind 10 points from Bree Wilson and eight each from Natalie Vaughn and Faith Alsobrooks.

Ema Tanner had six points. Macie Collins finished with five. Kelly Boehm and Bailee Hollis had four points apiece. Chloe Fowler dropped in two and Brooke Wilson chipped in with one.

Briannah Carson and Lacy Moyer had two points each for the Lady Bulldogs.

Heritage boys 57, Rossville 18

The Generals got a balanced scoring effort and picked up a big win.

Caiden Bauldwin and Kaleb Gallman had 10 points apiece for the Generals. Tristan Simmons and Will Riddell each scored eight, while Cooper Bell and Jacob Dawson each added six. Five points from Jace Lewis, four from Blake Debity and two from Cayden Lowery filled out the scoresheet for the visitors.

Jamarion Burks had nine points for the Bulldogs and Franklin Wilson added three. Two points each by Jammell Binford, Dyson Binford and Hunter Arnold completed the scoring for Rossville.

Ringgold girls 53, Trion 26

Up by just two points, 15-13, at the end of the first quarter

last Tuesday, the Lady Tigers held the hosts to just four points in the second period before outscoring them 18-2 in the decisive third period.

Allie Massengale had 13 points for Ringgold, followed by 12 each from Kayla Lopez and Brooke Baldwin. Kinsley Forscutt added seven points. Braylee Raby had four, while Tori Epps and Emma Stephenson chipped in with two points apiece.

Ringgold boys 29, Trion 18

The nightcap saw the Tigers forge a narrow 16-14 lead at intermissi­on, but they held the Bulldogs scoreless in the third quarter to gain some breathing room.

Trevor Jones hit three 3-pointers to finish with nine points. Taylor Pierce added eight, followed by Jacob Duarte with four and Aidan Hickman with three. Two points each by Judah Smith and Logan Bramlett and one from Gavin Lakin rounded out the night.

Ringgold girls 43, Gordon Lee 21

On Thursday, the Lady Tigers got 10 points from Stephenson and handed the visiting Lady Trojans a loss.

Massengale and Eryn Epps had six points each for the Blueand-white, followed by Lopez and Baldwin with five points

apiece. Four from Tori Epps, three by Forscutt and two each from Raby and Kinsey Miller rounded out the scoring.

Wilson had a game-high 11 points for Gordon Lee. Mcelhaney added nine and Logan chipped in with one.

Ringgold boys 27, Gordon Lee 21

After being held to just two points in the first quarter, the Tigers clawed back to get within two points of the lead at halftime before outscoring the Trojans 16-8 in the second half to pick up the victory.

Jones had 10 points for the Tigers, followed by six each from Duarte and Smith. Three points by Bryce Harris and two from Pierce completed the scoring.

Scott had eight points for Gordon Lee. Jackson Scali was next on the list with five. Sartin and Parrish added three each, while Troy Phillips dropped in two points.

Heritage boys 48, Chattanoog­a Valley 22

The Generals opened up a 17-7 lead after the first quarter on Thursday and pulled away for the victory in Boynton.

Gallman torched the nets for 22 points, followed by Bauldwin with eight. Lowrey and Maddox Henry scored five apiece, while two each from Dawson, Bell, Riddell and Talon Pickett completed the scoring.

The Eagles got eight points from Holden Lyons, six from Jamie Hinton and five from Jaishon Mclin. Two points from Carter Myers and one from Isaiah Price rounded things out.

The girls’ game was not played.

Saddle Ridge girls 39, Rossville 10

The Lady Mustangs picked up their first win of the season on the road Thursday night behind 10 points from Casteel, nine from Yancy and eight each from Jenkins and Hughes. Underwood and Fountain each added two points in the win.

Moyer paced the Lady Bulldogs with six points, followed by Carson and Kassidy Harrison with two apiece.

Rossville boys 65, Saddle Ridge 39

The Bulldogs claimed the win in the night’s second game as Burks drained the nets for 17 points. Dyson Binford added 11 and Wilson went for eight.

Bowman had nine points to lead the way for the Mustangs and Max Davis finished with seven.

Lakeview girls 42, Lafayette 13

Collins had a game-high 25 points and Valdes added 10 as the Lady Warriors picked up a win on the road Thursday afternoon. Moreland added four points and Payton Rolfe finished with three.

The Lady Ramblers got five points each from Webb and Mya Woodard, two points from Headrick and one point from Parker.

Lafayette boys 43, Lakeview 30

A 19-5 cushion in the third quarter proved to be the difference as the Ramblers scored a home win over the Warriors.

Mckenzie had 12 points in the decisive period and finished the game with 22. Finley added eight points, followed by Worley and Julian Lees with four each. Walker picked up three points and Asaiah Morton added two.

Rachel had a team-best 12 for Lakeview, 10 in the first half. Mcgruder and Darian Keefe both finished with seven and Goff added four.
