Heritage boys, Gordon Lee girls win JV tournament titles

Heritage Middle School won the 2020 North Georgia Athletic Conference boys’ JV basketball tournament title this past Wednesday afternoon at Gordon Lee, beating the host Trojans in the championsh­ip game by a score of 27-22.

Cody Bryan had nine points for the victorious Generals, who led 11-10 at halftime. Owen Carstens added five points in the win and Ty Hunt and Henry Allen each had four points, followed by Quay Skillern with three and Cohen Fletcher with two.

The victory completed a 10-0 season for Heritage, who went 7-0 in the regular season before winning three games in the tournament.

James Davis had 12 points for Gordon Lee to lead all scorers. Dustin Day added seven and Peyton Groce chipped in with three.

The Gordon Lee Lady Trojans made it four wins in a five-day span and captured the 2020 NGAC girls’ JV basketball tournament championsh­ip on Friday with a 26-14 victory over Ringgold at Lafayette Middle School.

Gordon Lee led 8-6 after the opening quarter, but cranked up the defense the rest of the way, allowing just two points in each of the next two periods.

It was a balanced scoring effort for the Lady Trojans’ offense. Josie Lewis had eight points to lead the way, followed by six from Kyleigh Custer and four from Whitney Blaylock. Two points apiece by Cam Carter, Molly Ellis, Laney Wilson and Kynleigh Custer completed the scoring.

Ringgold got a team-high seven points from Alayna Yarger, two each from Mattox Hollingswo­rth and Kiky Scott and one from Albany Jett.
