Ringgold girls win twice at North Murray

The Ringgold Lady Tigers traveled south to Chatsworth early last week for the Mistletoe Madness tournament at North Murray High School and finished 2-1 in the event to take an 8-3 overall record into the prolonged holiday break.

Calhoun girls 61, Ringgold 53

Last Monday, the Lady Tigers overcame a four-point deficit at halftime and took a 43-42 lead going into the fourth quarter. However, they were outscored 19-10 over the final eight minutes and fell to their former Region 6-AAA foes.

Caroline Hemphill scored 15 points, all from behind the arc as she drained five 3-pointers. Riley Nayadley added 13 points and Baileigh Pitts finished with nine. Five points each from Maggie Reed and Amber Gainer, four from Jade Gainer and two from Rachel Lopez rounded out the scoring.

Pitts had a team-high nine rebounds, followed by Reed with eight and Amber Gainer with seven.

Ringgold girls 51, Dalton 34

The Lady Tigers outscored Dalton in all four quarters last Tuesday and picked up a win on the second day of the tournament.

Reed had a dozen points and grabbed five rebounds as Ringgold led 27-16 at intermissi­on. Pitts had 11 points and four rebounds and Nayadley scored nine points and pulled down seven boards.

Hemphill scored eight points and dished out four assists. Lopez had seven points to go with 12 assists and four steals and Cady Helton scored two points to finish up the day.

The Lady Catamounts did not have a player with over six points.

Ringgold girls 70, Calhoun 67

A scheduling change on the last day of the tournament this past Wednesday paired up the Lady Tigers with the Lady Jackets in a rematch of the tournament opener and this time it was the Blue-and-white finding a way to get the win.

Ringgold led by one at halftime, but fell behind 53-44 going into the fourth quarter. However, Lopez lit up Calhoun for 14 points in the final eight minutes to spur the comeback.

Lopez finished with 20 points and Nayadley had a team-high 24 in the win. Reed had a big day as well, scoring 12 points, grabbing 15 rebounds and collecting nine steals. Pitts and Hemphill each had six points and Amber Gainer finished with two.

Ringgold will enjoy a long holiday break before the Tigers and Lady Tigers get back to action on Friday, Jan. 8 with a varsity doublehead­er at Region 6-AAA foe Sonoravill­e.

Lafayette girls fall to Rockmart

After rallying from a one-point firstquart­er deficit to take a 33-30 lead at intermissi­on, the Lady Ramblers were outscored 22-10 in the third quarter and dropped a 70-57 decision to the visiting Lady Jackets in a Region 6-AAA make-up game last Tuesday night in south Walker County.

Four players scored in double figures for Rockmart, led by a 35-point effort from Region 6-AAA Player of the Year candidate Keyarah Berry.

Latyah Barber had a solid night for Lafayette with 25 points, eight rebounds, six steals and four assists. Mykeria Johnson scored 18 points with four 3-pointers and Savanna Hall had eight points, six boards and four steals.

Four points, four rebounds, two steals and two assists from Fanny Barber and two points, five boards, two steals and one assist by Heather Tucker completed the stat sheet.

Lafayette (2-1, 1-1) was scheduled to host Trion for Senior Night games on Tuesday of this week. Due to newspaper deadlines, results were not available as of press time.
