Allie Farrow (Junior, Gordon Lee) The 2020 Walker County Softball Player of the Year

-

The Gordon Lee Lady Trojans have always had pitching. That’s been well-documented.

They’ve also had more than their share of speedy, run-producing leadoff hitters who have gotten on base and set the table for the heart of the order.

But someone still has to drive in the runs and for the past two seasons, Allie Farrow has been one of the most productive and most dependable sluggers to wear the Navy-and-white.

Farrow exploded onto the scene as a sophomore when she won the team’s designated player spot. She earned second team All-state honors from the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association that season by batting .411 with eight doubles and six homers. She scored 21 runs and drove in 36 more to help Gordon Lee add to its collection of state championships.

And this past season, she raised up her game yet another level.

Not only did the surehanded Farrow take over as the team’s everyday catcher, she continued to wallop opposing pitching. The junior ended the year with a career-high .495 average and led Gordon Lee with 18 doubles and 44 RBIS, adding a pair of homers.

She was one of three players in a potent Lady Trojan lineup with a slugging percentage of over .700 (.737) as Gordon Lee made it 18 consecutive region championships and six straight state crowns.

“At the beginning of the year, I knew it would be harder because of all the starters we lost (from the year before),” she explained, “so I knew I had to step up, be a leader and help carry the team. We all had to work together to reach

our goals of winning region and winning state and we did that.”

Farrow closed out the year with a first team Region 6-A selection and another second team All-state nod. Today, one more award and she adds the title of Walker County Softball Player of the Year for the 2020 season.

“I just always try to do my best because our team is always working together and we worked together really well this year,” she said.

The 2021 season will bring with it a new set of challenges as Gordon Lee will have enormous shoes to fill once again. All six of this past season’s seniors made All-region first or second team and four were given All-state status.

But Farrow knows that while the names and faces may change, the expectations at Gordon Lee remain the same.

“Like always, the goals for next year are to win region and win state,” she added. “We just have to play it together, game by game.”
