Lafayette girls stay perfect

The Lafayette Ramblers and Lady Ramblers both defeated LFO in matches on Thursday.

The Lafayette girls picked up a 5-0 sweep to remain perfect on the season. Abby Keys (6-4, 6-4), Grace Hamilton (6-0, 6-1) and Macy Mashburn (7-6 (4), 6-2) all won singles matches. The team of Latyah Barber and Kloe Ludy won their doubles match (6-1, 6-0), while Caylee Purcell and Megan Torbett also teamed up for a victory (6-4, 6-0).

Rylee Stansberry picked up a 6-1 win an exhibition singles match, while Makayla Priddy was leading 2-1 when her match was stopped. Fanny Barber and Sydney Kruger were also up 3-2 in an exhibition doubles match when play was halted by darkness.

On the boys’ side, the Ramblers scored a 4-1 victory behind singles wins from Cole Spears (6-0, 6-0) and Tucker Henderson (6-0, 6-0). The team of Anthony Collins and Ben Maanum picked up a win (6-0, 6-0), while Dawson Davenport and Stone Phillips also won their match (6-0, 6-1) to close it out.

The lone point for the Warriors came from Andrew Hedges, who picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles.

Dylan Brown scored a 6-0 win in an exhibition match for Lafayette and teamed up with Nathan Ball for a 6-0 victory in exhibition doubles. LFO had an exhibition doubles win as the team of Mason Lecroy and Abram Cresswell came through with an 8-2 victory.

Gordon Lee falls to Chattooga

The Navy- and- White opened their new season at the Rome Tennis Center on Thursday, but dropped matches to Chattooga.

The Trojans were edged out, 3-2. Gordon Lee’s victories both came in singles. Noah

Dockery won a three-set decision (4-6, 7-6, 1-0), while Andrew Sizemore breezed to an easy win (6-0, 6-0).

Ella Atkinson (6-1, 6-3) won the only match for the Lady Trojans in a 4-1 defeat.

Ridgeland takes on Northwest

The Panther tennis team took all of its matches to three sets on Thursday, but ultimately fell to the visiting Bruins.

Cobin Mckelvy lost in three sets in boys’ singles, while in the girls’ action the team of Kaylee Thompson and MCKenna Holder, along with the team of Molly Pickard and Andrea Boyko suffered narrow defeats.

“I’m very excited about these kids,” first-year head coach Keith Mariakis said. “They are working super hard to get as good as they can be...it has been a great two-and-a-half weeks. They all some long volleys in their matches (today).”
