Trojan golfers beat Warriors in 2022 opener

Gordon Lee and LFO opened the 2022 high school golf season on a picture perfect afternoon at the Lafayette Golf Course this past Thursday.

In the boys’ match, the Trojans won, 188-235.

Zane Blaylock led the Navyand-white with a 42, while Ayden Cordell shot a 44. The rest of the team score was rounded out by a 50 from Andrew Amor and a 52 from Sam Carswell.

Also playing for the Trojans were Tanner Maynor (53), Jack Lowery (56), James Eldridge (57) and Cooper Jacks (61).

The Warriors got a teamlow 52 from senior Ashton Hinnard. Levi Harwell shot a 60, followed by Jonathan Parkhill with a 61 and Nate Carter with a 62.

Also teeing it up for the Red-and-white was Matt Gilbert (60), Nolan Janvrin (62), Jake Seay (63) and Shane Dodson (63).

Neither school had enough girls to post a team score. Senior Cora Mount paced the Lady Trojans with a 47 and Charlsie Mcelhaney carded a 53, while Lola Harwell shot a 62 for the Lady Warriors.

HERITAGE HOSTS 5-STAR INVITATION­AL

Heritage, Lafayette, and Gordon Lee’s boys’ golf teams all hit the links on Saturday for the annual 5-Star Invitation­al. This year’s tournament was played at Bear Trace at Harrison Bay in Ooltewah.

Dalton emerged victorious with a winning score of 299, followed by a 307 from Calhoun and a 326 from Christian Heritage. Northwest Whitfield finished fourth at 330.

Heritage took fifth with a team score of 338. That included a 77 from Chandler Burns, a 79 from Samuel Johnson, an 84 from James

Kennedy and a 98 from Luke Fitzsimmon­s. Sawyer Eaton and J.T. Halleron also played for the Generals. Both shot 110.

Lafayette finished two strokes back at 340, anchored by a 73 from Grant Langford. Mason Thompson’s 81, Brady Mullaly’s 91 and Junior Barber’s 95 completed the Ramblers’ team score. Also playing for Lafayette were Jackson Brewster (101) and Braden Queen (108).

Gordon Lee ended the day at 356, which included an 83 from Cordell, an 87 from Amor, an 89 from Blaylock and a 97 by Carswell. Also teeing it up for the Trojans on Saturday were Maynor (100) and Lowery (111).

Langford and Burns were named to the All-tournament Team, along with Calhoun’s Beau Black (75) and the Dalton trio of low medalist Clay Walker (72), Cole Stockard (73) and Landon Painter (77).
