Tigers corral Coahulla Creek

The Ringgold Tigers added to their winning streak last week by sweeping Coahulla Creek, putting them at 7-1 in Region 6-AAA going into a two-game series with Rockmart. The Jackets and Tigers went into the series tied atop the standings at the midway point of the region slate.

RINGGOLD 9, COAHULLA CREEK 5

Ringgold trailed 4-3 going into the bottom of the sixth inning last Tuesday when it erupted for six runs to help extend its winning streak to six games. The big inning included five singles, two walks and one very costly Colt error that allowed two runs to score.

Ross Norman was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Mason Parker had two hits and drove in one. Connor Christophe­r had a double as one of his two hits with a run scored. Dre Morris doubled and scored twice, while Brady Hermann picked up an RBI.

Sebastian Haggard recorded the victory with 5.1 innings of work. He gave up four earned runs on six hits and four walks, but finished with six strikeouts. Mason Burt walked two and struck out one, allowing one unearned run in two-thirds of an inning of relief before Parker recorded the save. He struck out two in one hitless inning out of the bullpen.

RINGGOLD 5, COAHULLA CREEK 4

The Tigers made it seven consecutiv­e victories on Thursday night after holding on for a road win in Varnell.

The Tigers got a two-run single from Christophe­r in the top of the second inning and put up three runs in the top of the fourth to take a commanding 5-0 lead.

The Blue-and-white loaded the bases with one out in the fourth on a pair of singles and a walk before Dawsyn Ware raced home from third base on a passed ball. Following a single by Morris and a Coahulla Creek error, Ty Gilbert came through with a basesloade­d single and Hermann drove in a run with a groundout.

The Colts, however, came storming back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. But Parker came into pitch and put out the fire by recording the final out of the inning with the tying run at third. Parker went on to throw two more scoreless innings to end the game and pick up the save.

Norman recorded the victory after 4.2 innings on the hill. He struck out six batters and walked three, while allowing four earned runs on seven hits.

Hermann finished 2 for 4 and Ware picked up a single, while both players also had a stolen base.
