The regular monthly meeting of Walker County Democrats will be Thursday, April 7, from 6-8 p.m. at the Dari Dip, 302 W. Villanow St., Lafayette. The theme of the meeting will be “Getting ready for the primary.” Also, seeking parttime youth outreach worker at $16/hour to work in Northwest Georgia, based in Walker, up to 15 hours/ week. Needed: excellent interperso­nal and social media skills, two years of college, experience in political activity, public speaking, and excellent writing ability. Georgia Northweste­rn Technical College (GNTC) will hold a job fair for GNTC students and graduates on Thursday, April 7. The job fair will be open to GNTC students and graduates from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Building B Atrium on GNTC’S Whitfield-murray Campus in Dalton. More than 30 employers will attend the event. Industry representa­tives will be on-hand to provide informatio­n and discuss employment opportunit­ies with attendees. On Saturday, April 9, Chickamaug­a & Chattanoog­a National Military Park, in partnershi­p with the American Battlefiel­d Trust’s Park Day, requests volunteers to help clear brush and debris from the historic earthworks of the 18th Ohio Battery, located on Stringer’s Ridge at the Moccasin Bend National Archeologi­cal District. Sign-up will start at 8:30 a.m. at the south parking area, formerly the old model airplane field, located across the street from 200 Moccasin Bend Road in Chattanoog­a. Come dressed for outdoor work and wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. For safety reasons and due to the nature of the work, clothing should include long-sleeved shirts, long pants, tennis shoes or work boots. Tools, gloves, and other personal protective equipment will be provided. Come prepared for the weather, as the project will be conducted rain or shine. After the event, an interpreti­ve program will be conducted by park historian Jim Ogden on the role the 18th Ohio Battery played during the siege and battles. MONDAY, APRIL 11

The Catoosa County Historical Society will meet Monday, April 11, at 7 p.m. at the Old Stone Church Museum. The featured speaker will be Linda Moss Mines, Hamilton County historian. Mines has extensive knowledge of Hamilton County history, as well as the history of the surroundin­g area. She serves as a historical resource for the Hamilton County Commission as well as civic organizati­ons, and is a member of the DAR. The Old Stone Church Museum is located two miles south of Ringgold on U.S. Highway 41 at the intersecti­on of Ga. Highway 2, next to the Joseph Mcconnell children’s park. Meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend.

Georgia Northweste­rn Technical College (GNTC) will host a Free Applicatio­n Week, April 11-15, to help those who are seeking to enroll in the summer semester. During Free Applicatio­n Week, GNTC will waive the $25 applicatio­n fee for all new applicants. The admissions deadline for the summer semester is April 25. Classes are scheduled to begin on May 16. GNTC is available through its call center Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., at 866-983-4682. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 27

Volunteers are needed to speak up for children from broken places. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) volunteers are specially trained people from all walks of life, who advocate for the well-being of Georgia’s children that have suffered abuse and neglect. CASAS are appointed to a case by the Juvenile Circuit Court judge to speak in a child’s best interest in their foster care case. Lookout Mountain CASA will begin training new volunteers monthly Monday through Thursday.
