- By Scott Herpst sherpst@npco.com

The Gordon Lee Lady Trojans returned to the court this past Thursday for the first time since the holiday break and, although their offense may have shown a little rust at times, their defense more than made up for it.

The Navy-and-white held visiting Rome without a point through the first quarter and later ended the third on a 12-0 run to send the Lady Wolves back to Floyd County with a 52-28 loss in a non-conference game.

Gordon Lee improved to 12-0 on the year with the win.

Camdyn Carter had a huge night with 26 points. Riley Mull finished with seven, followed by Whitney Blaylock with six, Marley Stone with four and Laney Wilson with three. Hynleigh Harding and Maddie Harvey scored two each, while Kyleigh and Kynleigh Custer both chipped in with one.

After two losses to Chattanooga Valley earlier this season, the Saddle Ridge Lady Mustangs got a measure of revenge with a road win in Flintstone on Thursday night.

The home team took an 11-4 lead into the second quarter, but were held to just three points in the period as Saddle Ridge went into the locker room trailing by just two, 14-12.

Saddle Ridge’s offense began to get on track in the third as the Navy-and-red posted 16 points to grab a 28-22 lead before keeping CVMS at arm’s length in the fourth.

Elliott Rogers poured in 13 points, including three 3-pointers, while adding five boards and three steals for Saddle Ridge (10-6). Erin Grant added 11 points, seven rebounds and five steals, while Caylie Harrell patrolled the paint for seven points and nine rebounds to go with three steals.

The final game of the night — the rubber match of the regular season between the two squads — was a see-saw battle through three quarters.

The Eagles (4-6) took a 15-11 lead at the end of the first period, only to see the Mustangs (4-7) rally for a 23-19 cushion at halftime. A big third quarter by CVMS would put the home team in front, 42-36, with only one quarter left to play.

However, the visitors from Rock Spring dominated the fourth, outscoring their hosts, 26-6, to pull away for the victory. Bryson Penson poured in 27 points in the victory, followed by Z Harris with 18.

Jacob Hayes had nine points and Harrison Gilstrap scored five, while Landon Kirby’s three points finished things up.

Massen Brundage had a team-high 16 for the Eagles and Caden Housley added 10, while the remainder of the total featured eight from George Bednar, six apiece by Stryker Harden and Jaxson Sivley, and four from Jay Harris.

HERITAGE BOYS 32, LAKE FOREST 31

Trailing by a point with time elapsing, Eli Thacker knocked down the gamewinning shot as Heritage held off Lake Forest in a non-league game at Ringgold Middle School on Friday afternoon.

The Generals had trailed their opponents from Bradley County, Tenn. at halftime, 18-14, before going ahead 27-22 after three quarters.

Lake Forest responded to take a 31-30 lead in the waning seconds, but Thacker’s heroics with six ticks left on the clock put Heritage back in front. Lake Forest called time-out to set up a potential game-winning shot, but it missed its mark as the Generals hung on.

Thacker finished with six points. Cohen Fletcher led the way with 13 and Caden Hight went for seven. Four points from Sam Coleman and one each by Jacob Carter and Cooper Mccrary rounded things out for the Generals.
