Volleyball season ends for Oakwood Middle

The Oakwood Christian Middle School Lady Eagles closed out the 2024 volleyball season last week by participat­ing in the ISC tournament at St. Jude School in Chattanoog­a.

OCA opened the tournament against Berean Academy and were edged out in a three-set thriller last Tuesday.

Berean won the opening set, 25-15, but OCA responded with a 25-22 victory to force a third-set tiebreaker. Bearen would win that final set, 18-16.

Ali Chapman had six aces and three kills for the Lady Eagles. Carly Tankersley recorded three kills and an ace. Victoria Berck served up three aces, as did Abby Langston, who also had a kill. Lelia Evans had a pair of aces and three kills and Lila Foster chipped in with an ace.

The double-eliminatio­n tournament continued later the week and OCA picked up a straight-sets sweep of OLPH on Thursday, 25-17 and 25-15.

Chapman had eight aces and four kills to lead the offense. Evans picked up three aces and five kills. Tankersley and Berck had two kills apiece with Tankersley adding an ace. Foster rounded out the stat sheet with a kill and a pair of aces.

However, the Lady Eagles’ tournament and season came to a close with a threeset loss to St. Jude later on

Thursday night. Oakwood dropped the first set, 25-23, but responded with a 25-20 win before losing 15-8 in the tiebreaker.

Evans had nine kills and three aces, while Chapman served up five aces and recorded three kills. Both players were later named to the All-conference Team.

The rest of the statistics included two kills by Tankersley, two aces and a kill by Langston and an ace by Berck.

OCA finished the season with a 5-7 overall record.
