Ringgold sweeps dual meet against Heritage

After a multi-school track meet had to be postponed due to weather this past Thursday, Heritage and Ringgold squared off in a dual meet a day later in Boynton, affectiona­tely known as the Battle of Poplar Springs.

The Lady Tigers held on for a 5450 victory in the girls’ meet, while the Tigers completed the sweep with a 59-47 victory in the boys’ meet.

The two schools won two field events each on the girls’ side. Ringgold got a win from Grace Ward in the long jump (13-6) and a victory by Taylor Jackson in the discus (60-0.5). Meanwhile, Adison Steadman won the shot put (26-10) and Brooklyn Bowling took first in the high jump (4-2) for Heritage.

On the track, however, the Lady Tigers claimed five of the eight events. L.A. Nowlin took first place in the 100 hurdles (17.56). L.G. Runion took the win in the 100 (13.68). Lulu White claimed a narrow victory in the 400 (1:13.12) and Ringgold swept the 4x100 (59.34) and the 4x400 (5:04).

Carly Christman took first place for the Lady Generals in the 800 (2:50) and the 1600 (6:01), while Mariah Evans raced to victory in the 200 (28.91).

In the boys’ meet, Heritage claimed two of the four field events. Caden Watson took first place in the discus (88-0) and Samuel Troutman scored a win in the long jump (16-6). Ringgold got a victory from Nathaniel Lauck in the high jump (5-4) as he won a jump-off tiebreaker against Heritage’s Jacob Carter, who also cleared 5-4. In the shot put, Heritage’s Kylin Murphree and Ringgold’s Cooper Moore tied for first place (34-7).

The Tigers had two multiple winners on the track. Adam Mozingo crossed the line first in both the 100 (12.03) and the 400 (1:01.56), while Grant Skinner picked up wins in the 800 (2:33) and the 1600 (5:36).

Ringgold also swept the relays, winning the 4x100 (52.22) and the 4x400 (4:27).

Troutman also took first place for the Generals in the 200 (27.40), while Roman Richmond crossed the line first in the 100 hurdles (18.19).
