Ringgold wins crosstown rivalry game

- By Scott Herpst sherpst@npco.com

After losing to Heritage in Boynton earlier this season, the Ringgold Tigers turned the tables on the Generals this past Friday afternoon with a 3-2, five-inning victory back at home.

Van Norman brought in a run on a groundout in the top of the third and Jackson Pickett had an RBI in the top of the fourth to stake Heritage to a 2-0 lead.

But two walks and a sacrifice bunt set the table for the Tigers in the bottom of the fourth. Brandon Stewart brought in a run with an Rbi-single and Julian Barrera later stole third before scoring on an error to tie the game.

Then in the bottom of the fifth, Liam Heatherly led off with a single, but back-to-back strikeouts got Heritage closer to escaping the jam. However, Broc Gann drew a walk and both runners moved up on a passed ball.

The Generals then chose to intentionally walk Barrera to load the bases, setting up a force play at any base. But Stewart worked his way for a walk to bring in the game-winner.

He finished 2 for 2 on the day with two RBIS. Brody Raby also had a hit for the Tigers.

Liam Cates pitched all five innings. He gave up two earned runs on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

Norman and Colby Burgess had singles for Heritage, while Judd Mitchell picked up a double.
