EWI, OSU hold open houses on U.S. manufactur­ing

Rickenback­er’s among largest foreign trade zones

The foreign trade zone at Rickenback­er Airport is now one of the 10 largest in the United States, according to the Columbus Regional Airport Authority.

A record of $6.3 billion worth of merchandis­e moved through the zone in 2013, which was the seventh highest total among the country’s 177 such zones.

A foreign trade zone is a secure area in and around a port of entry, such as Rickenback­er, that is under the supervisio­n of U.S. Customs and Border Protection and this country’s version of what are known internatio­nally as freetrade zones.

Former Meijer now home to FrontRoom Furnishing­s

FrontRoom Furnishing­s has opened a showroom at 2675 Brice Rd. in a building once occupied by Meijer.

The company is operating FrontRoom Furnishing­s, Bedrooms First and its Fifty-Off Outlet concepts out of that space, which includes nearly 130,000 square feet.

The new location replaces the smaller FrontRoom Furnishing­s showroom on S. Hamilton Road, the company said.

Massage chain opens 11th area location

Massage Envy Spa has opened its 11th location in the Columbus region, the company has announced.

The 3,500-square foot spa in Lewis Center, with 12 treatment rooms, is expected to employ more than 50.

Lewis Center marks the third location for franchisee­s Steve and Julie Kambeitz and Alissa Rodgers, whose other Massage Envy Spas are in Dublin and Powell.

The spa is at 6497 Pullman Drive and is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

EWI, a manufactur­ing technology innovator, plans a Manufactur­ing Day 2014 open house on Oct. 3 in collaborat­ion with the Ohio State University College of Engineerin­g.

The event is designed to educate the public about U.S. manufactur­ing and will allow visitors to see technology demonstrat­ions and tour EWI’s labs and workshops.

Two 90-minute open house sessions will take place, beginning at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., at EWI, 1250 Arthur E Adams Dr. on OSU’s West Campus. Registrati­on is required and may be made by calling 614-699-5000 or visiting www.regonline.com/ MfgOct2014.

Workshop to teach how to prevent identity theft

The Credit Union of Ohio will have a workshop on how to prevent identity theft from 7 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 7 at the credit union’s Hilliard branch at 5500 Britton Parkway.
