Family’s memorial fund surpasses goal
An outpouring of love, kindness and generosity from thousands of people, mostly strangers, will ensure Reagan Tokes’ legacy lives on long after her death, her family said this weekend.
As of Sunday, a GoFundMe page collecting donations in memory of the slain 21-yearold Ohio State University senior from Maumee had already received nearly $88,000, well surpassing its original goal of $50,000.
Jake Hadley, a family friend, created the page to fund scholarships for Ohio State students and buy a commemorative plaque for Anthony Wayne High School, the Toledo-area school Tokes graduated from in 2013. The page has been shared nearly 10,000 times and received more than 2,000 contributions.
Tokes’ uncle released a statement of appreciation Saturday night on behalf of her family.
“We would be slight of heart if we didn’t issue an additional statement as it pertains to the tremendous outpouring of financial contributions to the funds that have been created in Reagan Tokes’ honor,” Jeff McCrary said.
The family also thanked establishments that have hosted other fundraisers and events in her name.
“We are immensely humbled and honored by the abundant generosity and kindness from all those who knew our beautiful daughter and those who didn’t who have reached out anyway,” the statement continued. “Thank you doesn’t even begin to express our gratitude. It is another shining example of the power of love.”
Tokes was found dead Feb. 9 at Scioto Grove Metro Park in Grove City. Brian Golsby, 29, is accused of abducting her in the Short North and taking her to the park, where he raped and fatally shot her.
Donations in her memory are still accepted at gofundme.com/reagantokesand at Huntington National Bank, 597 W. Dussel Drive, Maumee, OH 43537, for the Reagan Delaney Tokes Memorial Fund, to support charities and organizations she enjoyed.
