Dubinsky leaves practice; Tynan recalled

Blue Jackets center Brandon Dubinsky left Friday’s practice with an undisclosed injury or illness.

Coach John Tortorella said Dubinsky headed off for “maintenance,” but the club took a step later in the day that suggested it could be more than that.

Center T.J. Tynan was recalled from minor-league Cleveland, the first recall in his three-year professional career.

It’s telling that Tynan is a center. Two other candidates for recall — players who have been ahead of Tynan on the depth chart, typically — are left wing Sonny Milano and right wing Markus Hannikainen.

General manager Jarmo Kekalainen said Tynan was recalled as a “precaution.”

In 55 games with Cleveland, Tynan has 30 points (seven goals, 23 assists) and a plus-10 rating.

The Blue Jackets selected Tynan out of Notre Dame with a third-round pick (No. 66 overall) in 2011.

NHL not happy

The NHL wouldn’t say if Wild coach Bruce Boudreau was fined for his comments criticizing officials after the Blue Jackets' 1-0 win over Minnesota on Thursday.

But sources told The Dispatch that the Wild and Boudreau were, at the very least, reprimanded by the league’s hockey operations department by telephone on Friday.

Boudreau complained about a second-period goal that was disallowed because Wild forward Erik Haul kicked a puck that went into the net off Blue Jackets forward William Karlsson, a clear violation of rule 49.2, stating:

"… a goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who kicks a puck that deflects into the net off any player, goalkeeper or official."

“Well, first of all, the puck wasn’t kicked at the net,” Boudreau told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “He was trying to kick it up to his skate because it was going five feet wide. And they put it in their own net. So, I don’t see how in Toronto that they’re calling it, unless it’s a guy they just pulled in off the street that hasn’t seen hockey.”

Also, Boudreau vented about a lategame penalty on Wild center Martin Hanzal for elbowing Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.

“You want to give Hanzal an elbowing penalty for that in front of the net, that’s great, but you’ve got to give an embellishing penalty for the goaltender throwing his head back as if somebody just shot a bullet and hit him in the head.”

Slap shot

Left wing Matt Calvert and center Lukas Sedlak, who both have oblique injuries, skated away from the club on Friday.
