Davidson beats Westerville South at buzzer
Travis Moore hit a runner in the lane as time expired and 14thseeded Hilliard Davidson knocked off defending state champion and sixth-seeded Westerville South 41-39 in a Division I district semifinal Wednesday night at Worthington Kilbourne.
The game ended in controversial fashion. Westerville South senior center Kaleb Wesson was assessed a technical foul after blocking a shot. Moore hit both free throws to tie the score at 39 with 39 seconds left and Davidson held the ball for the final shot.
Anthony Mills hit a three-pointer with 1:37 left to give South (19-6) a 39-37 lead. Wesson, an Ohio State signee, capped his career with 18 points.
Jacob Drees scored 16 points and Moore 12 to lead Davidson (19-6). in the second half and top-seeded Pickerington Central (23-2) led by as many as 23 before beating Mifflin (14-10) at Watkins Memorial. game with a win over 17thseeded Grove City (12-12) at Pickerington Central. Dustin Harder scored nine of his 20 points in a 25-4 second quarter and added 13 rebounds, helping thirdseeded Wellington (18-7) rout fifth-seeded Cardington (19-6) at Westerville Central.
Second-seeded Grove City Christian (21-4) opened the game with a 21-0 run and defeated eighth-seeded Newark Catholic (8-16) at Hamilton Township. Brandon Baker totaled 21 points and eight rebounds for the Eagles. Noah Tomlinson chipped in 17 points and five rebounds.
Chris Anthony led four players in double figures with 21 points and added five steals and four rebounds as top-seeded Harvest Prep (19-5) beat Gahanna Christian (13-11) at Franklin Heights. Shaylin Waugh added 18 points and Claudio Penha 17 points and nine rebounds for the Warriors.
