Stivers and Tiberi were disrespected
I was highly offended by the Feb. 22 Dispatch article “2 lawmakers will skip local town halls” that painted Republican congressmen Steve Stivers and Pat Tiberi as out of touch with the voters and not showing up to town-hall meetings.
The comments online following the article continued the one-sided negativity with childish name-calling usually reserved for the elementary school playground. There were no productive comments on the post that offered intelligent perspectives on how to help solve the issues of health care and other concerns.
I wonder if everyone attending these “town hall” meetings actually voted. It is understandable why the congressmen were not present. For the public to schedule a town hall meeting and then notify the representatives shows blatant disrespect for their time. They want our feedback but there are better ways to get their attention.
I have chosen to get to know those who represent my voice locally and in Washington. I call, write letters, receive their e-mails to stay informed and express my views. My daughter shadowed Stivers in Washington while studying government. I have found the congressman to be an exemplary leader and a man of great integrity.
I would appreciate The Dispatch telling both sides of these “town hall” meetings.
