Brown is more than a rubber stamp

-

I am writing in response to a letter published on March 6 in regard to Sen. Sherrod Brown titled “Brown basically a rubber stamp.”

If constituents care to take the time to investigate, they will find that Brown is a very active member of the Senate, serves on six committees and scores No. 12 in leadership per Govtrack. com. He opposed President Barack Obama on some very large issues that he did not feel benefited Ohioans or the United States as a whole.

As to my personal experience, I have found Brown and his office to be extremely responsive. My husband was diagnosed with a lifethreatening illness by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and was referred to a private contractor to determine if he could receive treatment at a local hospital instead of traveling back and forth to Cincinnati.

At the end of the time frame that had been given, his file had not been reviewed. I contacted both of my U.S. senators as well as my U.S. representative. I was contacted by Brown’s office in less than 24 hours. We had a response from the contractor within days after my initial email to all three legislators. I never heard from the other two. After my husband’s treatment, I emailed Brown to thank him and update him on my husband’s health. On a Saturday morning, I received a phone call from the senator thanking me for my email and encouraging me to contact him in the future if I needed assistance. You will never convince me he doesn’t care about the people he represents.
