Liberty Union’s Burris honored

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Gabby Burris of Liberty Union was named coplayer of the year on The Associated Press Division III all-Ohio girls basketball team announced Tuesday.

Burris, who has signed to play at Ohio, missed her junior season because of a knee injury. But she came back to average 24.2 points and 10 rebounds, and shoot 56 percent from the field, including 44 percent from three-point range. She also made 82 percent of her free throws. She shares the honor with Naz Hillmon of Gates Mills Gilmour Academy.

Also joining Burris on the first team is Bridgette Rettstatt of Worthingto­n Christian. The 2016 Division III player of the year and Liberty University recruit averaged 23.4 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists. She is the leading scorer for the Warriors.

Jordon Horston of Africentri­c (12.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 6.5 assists) was named to the second team. Summer Blevins of Pleasant (16.4 points, 7.3 rebounds) and Autumn Hudson of North Union (18.1, 10.8) earned third-team honors.

In Division II, River Valley’s Morgan Lott was named to the first team. The senior averaged 16.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 3.8 steals. Felicia Atkinson of Granville was named to the third team, averaging 15.3 points.

Jordan Elliott of Danville was named to the first team in Division IV. As a senior, she averaged 18.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 4.6 steals. Fairfield Christian’s Celeste Mershimer was named to the third team, averaging 18.1 points.
