Wisconsin beats hockey team in Big Ten tournament semi

Will Johnson scored 1: 30 into the third period to propel Wisconsin past Ohio State 2- 1 in a men's hockey Big Ten semifinal showdown Friday at Joe Louis Arena in Detoit.

The Badgers ( 20- 141) took a 1- 0 late in the first period via Luke Kunin, whose 22nd goal of the season came on assists from J. D. Greenway and Tim Davidson.

The Buckeyes ( 2111- 6) tied it in the second period on a power play.

Dakota Joshua scored his 12th goal, with Mason Jobst and Josh Healey assisting.

Goalie Matt Tompkins registered 24 saves for the Buckeyes, including 14 in the second period when his side drew even. Counterpar­t Jack Berry stopped 23 shots in all.

Ohio State managed 11 shots but committed three costly penalties in the third period.

The final penalties gave Wisconsin a oneman advantage for the final 2: 28.

Women's swimming

Lindsey Clary and Liz Li each added AllAmerica­n honors to their career accomplish­ments at the NCAA championsh­ips in Indianapol­is.

Clary clocked a time of 4: 04.69 to fi nish in sixth place in the 400-yard individual medley.

It marked the sixth time in her career she managed All-American distinctio­n and a second consecutiv­e time in that event.

Meanwhile, Li managed seventh in the 100 butterfl y ( 51.34), making her an eight- time AllAmerica­n as a Buckeye.

Events conclude today, when Ohio State will have seven individual­s and a relay team in action.

Women's tennis

Second- ranked Ohio State blanked Wisconsin 5- 0 in a Big Ten matchup at the Varsity Tennis Courts.

The Buckeyes ( 15- 2, 2- 0) did not yield a set in winning four singles matches and were led by top singles player Francesca DiLorenzo, who secured a 6- 0, 6- 0 victory over Maria Avgerinos.

Ohio State also swept both doubles matches against the Badgers ( 4- 7, 0- 2) to remain atop the league standings.

Baseball

The Buckeyes (8-8) will open up their home schedule today at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium when they host Xavier.

When the fi rst pitch occurs against the Musketeers ( 7- 10), it will mark the 21st season at the venue for Ohio State, which is riding a threegame winning streak.
