Duvall’s slam backs Arroyo

- From wire reports

CINCINNATI — Adam Duvall hit his first career grand slam, Joey Votto had a tworun shot and Bronson Arroyo got his first win in almost three years, helping the Cincinnati Reds beat the Baltimore Orioles 9-3 on Tuesday night.

The 40-year-old Arroyo (1-2) allowed three runs in five innings, including Adam Jones' two-run homer in the fifth. The victory was Arroyo's first since June 15, 2014, for Arizona against the Dodgers. That was his last appearance before elbow and shoulder injuries knocked him out of action until this month. The longtime Red got his first win with Cincinnati since Sept. 22, 2013.

In both teams' first interleague game of the season, Duvall snapped an 0-for-13 slump with a first-inning sacrifice fly and his fourth homer of the season in a five-run second inning, Cincinnati's highest-scoring inning of the season. The Reds sent nine batters to the plate in the second.

Orioles starter Kevin Gausman (1-1) allowed eight runs and eight hits over 2 innings.

Suarez scratched

Third baseman Eugenio Suarez was scratched before Tuesday’s game because of a stiff neck, replaced by Scooter Gennett in the lineup. Suarez said he’d be OK.

Suarez is off to a hot start, hitting .364 with three home runs and 10 RBI, both tied for the team lead. Gennett also has three home runs and 10 RBI.

Finnegan update

Brandon Finnegan is on the disabled list with a shoulder injury, but the specific muscle strained is the teres major on the lower part of his left arm and back. It’s connected to the shoulder.

At this point, manager Bryan Price said there’s no real timetable for his return.

“I think he’s going to be inactive at least for a couple of weeks from throwing, based on how long it takes before he reinitiates throwing, it could dictate how long realistically until we see him back pitching again,” Price said.
