Citi laying off 94 as Boltonfield site closes
Financial-services company Citi will close its office on the Far West Side, costing 94 workers their jobs.
The company previously laid off more than 400 workers at that site at 1500 Boltonfield St., just west of Interstate 270.
Citi told the state in a letter that workers began receiving 60-day notices on the new layoffs on Feb. 26 and that the notices will extend until May 29.
The workers support a number of Citi’s consumerbanking businesses.
The company said Tuesday that most of the work being done in Columbus has moved to other Citi facilities, and about 40 workers now are working from home.
“In January, we informed employees at our Columbus site that some positions would move to work from home, and remaining work would be shifted to other U.S. sites by the end of April,” Citi said in a statement.
“These actions, which were previously announced in 2014, reflect our ongoing efforts to increase the
efficiency of our operations in response to changing business needs. Citi will help affected employees identify opportunities both inside and outside of the company. Affected employees will be eligible for Citi severance benefits and transition support.”
As Citi shuts its operations on Boltonfield Street, another company plans to move in. Earlier this year, the state approved tax incentives for payment-provider company TSYS, based in Georgia, for that building. The company has said it plans to create 145 jobs.
The company has said it plans to invest $ 25 million to establish a new credit- card and statementproduction operation in Columbus. TSYS offers businesses, financial institutions, governments and consumers an array of payment tools.
Citi is not leaving central Ohio: It has operations employing about 300 on Stelzer Road at Easton Commons. That office serves mutual funds and their customers, privateequity companies, wealth-management companies and other businesses.
