Dealer gets prison for near-fatal overdose
A South Linden woman was sentenced Wednesday to two years in prison for providing the heroin that caused a near-fatal overdose last year.
Sara E. Eberhard, 25, pleaded guilty to one count of corrupting another with drugs. The sentence was recommended by prosecuting and defense attorneys as part of a plea agreement, and it was imposed by Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Chris Brown.
Several other charges, including trafficking in heroin and aggravated possession of drugs, were dismissed in exchange for Eberhard’s guilty plea.
On Sept. 27, police and medics responded to the intersection of East 17th Avenue and Clara Street, where a woman was found unresponsive in a parked vehicle.
Medics gave her Narcan, which can reverse the effects of heroin and other opioids, said Assistant Prosecutor Carol Harmon.
Police detectives interviewed the woman in a hospital and learned that she had bought heroin minutes before the overdose from a woman at a house in the 900 block of East 17th Avenue.
Officers seized 79 grams of heroin during a search of the house and filed charges against Eberhard.
The prosecutor’s office has teamed up with the county sheriff’s office, Columbus police and other law-enforcement agencies since 2015 in an effort to prosecute those who supply drugs that lead to overdoses.
