Williams denies he’s withdrawn from draft

After a CBS Sports report indicated that Kam Williams would remove his name from the NBA draft and return to Ohio State for his senior season, the guard apparently has refuted the claim on Twitter while not ruling out the possibility.

Monday morning, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports wrote on Twitter that “Ohio State’s Kam Williams will return to school for his senior season, per Thad Matta.” But about two hours later, Williams wrote, “I have not withdrawn anything.”

The shooting guard from Baltimore, Maryland, submitted his name as an underclassman but did not hire an agent. Doing so allows underclassmen to explore their draft stock and earn a workout for an NBA team while retaining their eligibility should they desire to return to school.

“He’s not going to hire an agent,” his father, Kevin Williams, told The Dispatch last week. “He’s just going to go out there, get some workouts as opposed to working out on his own or working out with the coaches. And if you know Kam like I know Kam, you’ll find him in the gym pretty much any time he’s not in class.”

In 32 games, including a career-high 29 starts, Williams averaged 9.4 points per game as a redshirt junior while shooting 37.6 percent from three-point range. He is a career 39.0 percent threepoint shooter at Ohio State.

Williams has played in 102 games for the Buckeyes, averaging 7.6 points per game.

Players who do not sign with an agent have until May 24 to decide if they want to return to college.
