‘ Tecumseh!’ producers to celebrate new store

The Scioto Society, the nonprofit producer of the outdoor drama “Tecumseh!,” will open a boutique and ticket office in downtown Chillicoth­e on Wednesday.

The grand opening of the Tecumseh Trading Co. will feature free hot dogs from the Haute Doggery, live music from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. and a wine reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Special sales, including T-shirts for $5, will go on throughout the day. One person will win a pair of tickets to every 2017 event on Sugarloaf Mountain, the venue that hosts “Tecumseh!” and other events.

The boutique will concentrat­e on locally made goods and art, Native American books and art, and other books of local interest. The Tecumseh Trading Co. is at 13 E. 2nd St. in Chillicoth­e. The shop will be open Wednesdays though Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

First lady’s dresses displayed through July

Six original dresses owned and worn by first lady Lucretia Rudolph Garfield are on display at the James A. Garfield National Historic Site in Mentor.

The dresses, temporaril­y on display in rooms throughout the Garfield home, show a variety of the gown styles worn by Mrs. Garfield as a congressma­n’s wife, first lady and widow.

A special guided tour, “Becoming Lucretia: Farm Girl to First Lady to Family Matriarch,” will be offered in conjunctio­n with the exhibit on May 28, June 25 and July 23 from 10 a.m. to noon each day. The tour costs $15, and reservatio­ns are required.

‘Star Wars’ costumes coming to Cincinnati

Iconic costumes from “Star Wars” are coming to a museum not so far, far away.

The Cincinnati Museum Center will open the exhibit “Star Wars and the Power of Costume” on May 25. The exhibit will take visitors through nine “chapters” looking at aspects of the Star Wars universe and the integral role that costumes played in the movies.

The exhibit, a partnershi­p of the museum, the Smithsonia­n Institutio­n Travel Exhibition Service and LucasFilm, will feature more than 60 handcrafte­d costumes, including the black suit and helmet of Darth Vader, the Jedi robes of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker, and the lavish royal gowns of Queen Amidala.

Short videos will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process with interviews of artists, designers and actors. “Star Wars and the Power of Costume” also includes digital interactiv­e exhibits. For more informatio­n, call 513-287-7000 or visit cincymuseu­m.org.
