2 arrested in robbery, murder

Franklin County sheriff’s detectives arrested a teenager and a man over the weekend in connection with the fatal shooting of one man and the wounding of another during an armed robbery last Thursday inside a Mifflin Township home.

Detectives on Sunday arrested Deveron Huett, 16, and charged him with delinquenc­y counts of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery, according to a news release from the Franklin County sheriff’s office. On Saturday, detectives arrested Bradley Lubell, 28, of Gahanna and charged him with aggravated robbery and felonious assault.

The two are accused of attacking James Bradford Black, 34, and Erik Steven Taylor, 37, in a home the Black and Taylor shared in the 2400 block of Linndale Road.

Huett and Lubell entered the single-story house about 3 p.m. and pulled handguns, according to Franklin County court records.

During the confrontat­ion, Huett fatally shot Black in the head, killing him, the records state.

Lubell shot Taylor in the head and knee and took $100 from him, the records state.

When Mifflin Township police and paramedics arrived at the scene a short distance from their station, they found Taylor lying in the front yard of his home. Black was found dead inside the house.

Taylor was hospitaliz­ed and is expected to survived. Taylor recognized his attacker as a man named “Brad” and was able to make a positive identifica­tion for detectives, records show.

Huett is being held in the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center. Lubell is being held in the Franklin County jail in lieu of $500,000 following his first appearance Monday in Franklin County Municipal Court.
