Defensive back Norwood plans to transfer

-

Joshua Norwood, a defensive back from the 2015 Ohio State recruiting class, is transferring, two sources close to the program confirmed for The Dispatch.

A native of Valdosta, Georgia, Norwood is believed to be headed to Georgia Southern, a Football Bowl Subdivision school in the Sun Belt Conference. He could not be reached for comment, but a spokesman for the Buckeyes confirmed the news.

Norwood was considered the No. 44 cornerback prospect in the country by Rivals in the 2015 recruiting cycle. He was redshirted as a freshman and played in 11 games last year, primarily on special teams, winding up with eight tackles.

But as the Buckeyes worked to replace three starters in the secondary in spring practice, his name did not come up in media conversations with the coaches for a more substantial role in the fall. In the meantime, the team welcomed five early enrollees and a juniorcollege transfer to the defensive backs roster.

Norwood’s departure appears to leave Ohio State with 85 projected scholarship players for the fall, the NCAA limit.
