Congressmen show where priorities lie

-

U.S. Reps. Pat Tiberi, R-Genoa Township, and Steve Stivers, R-Upper Arlington, continue to show where they wish to spend their personal appearance time as reported by The Dispatch (“Next stop: Senate,” Dispatch article, May 5). It is clear meeting with their constituents to discuss the issues affecting us continues to be something they wish to avoid.

As they were to leave Washington, Tiberi and Stivers made it to a Rose Garden ceremony to celebrate the passage of the American Health Care Act, which has no chance of surviving in any form in the Senate but certainly gave President Donald Trump a win he wanted, even though it does not achieve better health care at reasonable costs and without affecting those already covered as they tout.

Further, Tiberi and Stivers voted for this Trumpcare, which allows states to craft their own plans that can eliminate the Medicare expansion in Ohio advanced by Gov. John Kasich, an action that the Ohio General Assembly reluctantly supported in the first instance and is financially restricting in the current budget bill.

And these congressmen made it to New Albany this week again for fundraising and to continue politics for an equally ill-advised tax reform plan at private invitation-only business functions. One of these functions is at a business that is in major financial tax dispute with the state of Ohio and whose cofounders are contributors to Tiberi’s campaigns.

I think this clearly shows where Tiberi’s and Stivers’ priorities reside, and with whom they are more comfortable.
