Morimando’s strong start wasted
Shawn Morimando cruised through seven shutout innings and left the game with a 2-0 lead, but the Clippers bullpen yielded four runs over the final two innings in a 4-2 loss to Indianapolis before 10,550 on Thursday afternoon at Huntington Park.
Austin Meadows' three-run home run in the eighth off of Neil Holland (0-1) negated the start by Morimando, who allowed only four hits and a walk while striking out six. The Clippers have lost four straight.
Pinch-hitter Erich Weiss led off the eighth with a double, Chris Bostick followed with a single and Meadows, the next batter, stroked one over the left field wall for a 3-2 Indians lead.
Despite Holland allowing a two-out walk, a single and hitting a batter after the homer, the Clippers got out of the inning without further damage. But Cole Sulser, who relieved Holland and got the final out of the eighth, gave up a run in the ninth.
Yandy Diaz homered to give Columbus a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Eric Stamets' first home run of the season gave the Clippers a 2-0 lead in the fifth.
In the bottom of the eighth, Richie Shaffer reached second on a single and a fielders choice, but he was stranded when Erik Kratz struck out.
Pat Light (3-0) earned the win in relief with a scoreless seventh, and Dan Runzler picked up his first save of the season. Starter Drew Huchison tossed six innings, allowing two runs on four hits, with a walk and four strikeouts.
