Teams get day off after Clippers post win in 18 innings

-

Dublin Scioto graduate Eric Stamets ended a nearly sixhour game Friday night against the Louisville Bats with an RBI single in the top of the 18th inning to give the Clippers a 6- 5 win at Slugger Field.

After the marathon game that ended after 1 a. m., the teams got a reprieve Saturday. Their game was postponed because of rain and will be made up today with a doubleheader beginning at 12: 30 p. m.

Stamets' hit scored Richie Shaffer, who reached base on a single off of losing pitcher Hernan Iribarren ( 0- 1). Shaffer advanced to second on a Chris Colabello single and went to third on a flyout.

The Clippers fell behind 3- 0 in the first but scored the next five runs. Peter O'Brien tied it with a two- run homer in the eighth for the Bats, who remain in last place in the International League West standings.

The win went to the Clippers' Jeremy Lucas, a catcher who pitched two innings of scoreless relief. The Clippers used eight pitchers before turning to Lucas in the 17th inning. Similarly, Iribarren pitched the final three innings for the Bats even though he is listed on their roster as an outfielder. He was Louisville's seventh pitcher to appear.

At the plate, Austin Jackson hit a two- run homer in the fifth for the Clippers, while Stamets managed two RBI, including the winner. Connor Marabell and Yandy Diaz each had three hits.

After today's doubleheader, the Clippers will begin a seven- game homestand starting Tuesday against the Scranton Wilkes- Barre Rail Riders.
