-

Ohio State managed only one run and four hits while falling to Longwood 3-1 in softball in an NCAA regional elimination game Saturday in Knoxville, Tennessee.

After qualifying for the NCAA Tournament as an at-large team for the second straight year, the Buckeyes (35-18) went 0-2 in Knoxville. They lost Friday to South Carolina-Upstate.

Alex Vargas doubled home Taylor White, who had singled to open the seventh inning, for OSU's only run.

OSU starter Shelby McCombs allowed three runs on four hits over 4 ⅔ innings, with four walks and four strikeouts.

Longwood took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI double by Glenn Walters. The Lancers scored twice in the fifth on RBI doubles by Kaylynn Batten and Jordan Clark.

Women's golf

Severe weather in Sugar Grove, Illinois, near Chicago, forced the cancellation of Saturday’s second round of the NCAA women’s championships. Stroke play will be trimmed to 54 holes, with the top eight teams advancing to match play starting Tuesday. Ohio State is tied for third with Arizona State, Baylor and Stanford, 10 shots behind leader Northwestern.

Baseball

A late rally by Ohio State fell short in a season-ending, 4-3 loss to Indiana (32-20-2, 14-91) at Bill Davis Stadium. The Buckeyes failed to qualify for the Big Ten tournament. OSU (2234, 8-16) allowed two early runs and trailed 4-1 after seven innings.
