“Tall Neck Vase,” by Shawn Messenger of Toledo. On the surface of the bulbous, blown- glass vase is a vibrant array of flowers — in striking shades of red, yellow and orange — against an aquatic- looking background.

Also appealing is “Large Blue & Gold Incalmo Bowl,” by Jonathan M. Capps of ■ “The Best of 2017” continues through June 18 at the Ohio Craft Museum, 1665 W. 5th Ave. Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 1 to 4 p.m. weekends. Free admission. Call 614-486- 4402, or visit www.ohiocraft.org. Columbus; the bowl appears as advertised, with brilliant rings of blue and gold encircling it.

A vessel that is surprising — not for its form but for its use of materials — is “A Glimpse Inside,” by Judy L. Kahle of Wauseon (recipient of the Barbara Robinson Award for Excellence in Traditional Craft). The work, shaped like a vase, is constructed using cotton fabrics, canvas and thread; the materials crisscross the body of the vessel.

Other highlights include two simple but strikingly designed chairs — one in black cherry, American ash and welded steel; the other in black cherry and welded steel — by Robert Troup of Pleasantville.

Among the most memorable quilts is “Journey,” by Pam Geisel of Yellow Springs. In a bold pattern, a river courses through a red landscape; arrowlike forms dot the area. Perhaps they are pointing the way for the viewer’s “journey”?

Also distinctive is “Ginkgo Candelabra Set” by Karine and Matthew Maynard of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Made up of three pieces in mild steel, silicon bronze and a walnut base, the set features winding, ivy- lined branches with holders for candles.

In the display at the museum, however, no candles are present, lending the work an intriguing, unfinished quality. It will be left to its eventual owner to supply the candles. ( Like most of the other pieces in the show, the work can be purchased.)

In July, the exhibit will travel to the Southern Ohio Museum in Portsmouth.
