Women’s tennis sweeps into NCAA semifi nal

Ohio State swept Texas Tech 4-0 on Sunday in Atlanta in the NCAA women’s tennis championsh­ips to reach the semifinals for the first time.

The third-seeded Buckeyes will play No. 7 Stanford at 4 p.m. today. They have won 18 straight matches since a loss to Florida on March 14.

The teams of Anna Sanford-Sandy Niehaus and Gabriella De Santis-Ferny Angeles Paz clinched the doubles point for OSU (32-2), and Sanford, Miho Kowase and Angeles Paz rolled to straightse­t wins in singles to complete the sweep of the Red Raiders (27-4).

Sunday’s match had been scheduled for outdoor courts at the University of Georgia in Athens, but was moved to the indoor courts at Georgia Tech because of rain.

Women’s golf

Ohio State is in fourth place after two rounds of the NCAA Championsh­ips in Sugar Grove, Illinois, 11 shots behind leader Northweste­rn.

The Buckeyes are a combined 34 over on the par-72 Rich Harvest Farms course. Kent State (31 over) and Stanford (33 over) are second and third, respective­ly.

Katja Pogacar was the Buckeyes’ top individual, in a tie for 14th at 7-over 151. Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest leads the way at even-par 144.

The final round is today after rain on Saturday shortened the tournament to 54 holes. The top eight teams advance to match play on Tuesday.

Men’s lacrosse to play Towson

Worthingto­n Kilbourne graduate Matt Wylly, a senior midfielder, scored two goals to help Towson defeat Syracuse 10-7 on Sunday in an NCAA men’s lacrosse quarterfin­al.

Towson will play Ohio State in a semifinal on Saturday in Foxborough, Massachuse­tts. Denver will play Maryland, which defeated Albany 18-9 on Sunday, in the other semifinal.
