Immigrants, jobs are old concern

-

Below is a direct quote from a famous politician that we’ve seen almost daily on television. Does it sound a little racist and bigoted to anyone?

“All Americans, not only in the states most heavily affected, but in every place in this country, are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country. The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. The public services they use impose burdens on our taxpayers. That is why our administration has moved aggressively to secure our borders more by hiring a record number of new border guards, by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before, by cracking down on illegal hiring, by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens.

“In the budget that I will present to you we will try to do more to speed the deportation of illegal aliens who are arrested for crimes, to better identify illegal aliens in the workplace as recommended by the commission headed by former congresswoman Barbara Jordan.”

Surprise, surprise: It is President Bill Clinton’s address to Congress in his 1995 State of the Union address.

David Walsh Powell agreement’s goal is clean air.

With the dramatic increase in worldwide population, it seems reasonable that a global agreement on reducing pollution is a good thing. We all breathe air from the same atmosphere, and thus a global effort is required.

Richard Miller Westerville environment at home or away.

But the avaricious among us who ignore your rights in favor of their selfish desires must be deterred from their nefarious pursuits, so they spoil it for the rest of us when restrictions are imposed on us all. Be it corporate embezzlement, unsanitary food processing, hacking into private computer data, concealment of drugs/ weapons in innocuous bags, or merely unlicensed pets running free, personal protection must be ensured in every aspect of our daily lives, and we must deal with all the inconvenient safeguards.

It’s a shame that this has to be our reality, but don’t blame the government; blame the greedy of this world.
