Ohio boys, girls win tri-state meet

Boys and girls track and field teams from Ohio swept the competitio­n in the 44th Midwest Meet of Champions on Saturday at Ohio Wesleyan.

Ohio’s boys scored 179 points to top Michigan (149) and Indiana (147). Ohio dominated the girls field with 228 points, well ahead of Michigan (160.5) and Indiana (84.5). The meet consists of top seniors in each state.

In the boys meet, Lonzell Feagin of Canal Winchester and Jayvonta Tolliver of Gahanna ran on Ohio’s victorious 1,600-meter relay team (3 minutes, 14.57 seconds). Donta Deas of Gahanna finished second in the 300 hurdles (39.54), as did Travis Marx of Reynoldsbu­rg in the 200 (21.73). Thirds went to T.J. Coates of Olentangy Orange in the 400 (39.46) and Hunter Moore of Orange in the 1,600 (4:18.11).

Ohio State-bound two-time state champion Aziza Ayoub of Jonathan Alder paced Ohio in the girls meet. Ayoub won the 800 (2:10.71) and ran on the winning 1,600 relay (3:43.4) along with Ivy McKee of Gahanna and Natalie Price of Granville.

McKee, Price and Mika Cox of Reynoldsbu­rg ran on the winning 800 relay that set a meet record (1:37.28).

Michelle Lehmann of Watterson took second in the long jump (19-2¼) and ran on the second-place 400 relay team (47.13) along with Price and Hartley teammates Gana Lopez and Tanezya Robinson.

Kyleigh Edwards of Fairfield Christian took second in the 3,200 (10:54.2), as did Anna Watson of Olentangy Orange in the pole vault (13-0).

Benja Duff of Gahanna took third in the 100 hurdles (14.78) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (45.89).
