Solstice celebration set at Serpent Mound
On Saturday, Serpent Mound in Adams County will host a summer-solstice celebration and dinner.
The event, sponsored by the nonprofit conservation organization Arc of Appalachia, includes a 4 p.m. presentation by archaeologist Jarrod Burks, reporting on his latest findings about the mound’s mysteries.
Also planned is a feast, catered by Ridge Top BBQ. The event will end with an hour of silence as the setting sun descends directly in front of the great serpent, with torches lit at the moment of sunset.
Dinner costs $15 a person; advance registration is required. Parking costs $8 a car.

The 2017 theme is “Circus Spectacular.” Visitors of all ages can enjoy a Duck Tape big-top circus with side-show attractions as well as a parade with floats made of — wait for it — Duck Tape.
Also planned are festival-food favorites, rides and a Duck Tape fashion show. New this year is an interactive Duck Tape artcreation station.

The event will include presenters outfitted as Vikings, medieval knights and World War II troops. Visitors will see weapons and other aspects of military life during those eras.
