or perform any original music. The whole idea is it’s a live experience.”

Soul Kitch’n will perform at 9 p.m. Friday at the Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival.

How did you assemble your band?

We were lucky enough to really associate ourselves with some of the best musicians in Columbus — a lot of Capital University grads, a lot of (Ohio State University) music grads. My husband and I are just music lovers who taught ourselves how to do what we love to do, but we surrounded ourselves with people who are skilled. That marriage of their skill and our passion for it resulted in a pretty good thing.

What kind of music do you play?

Mostly we play all the stuff we’ve always loved growing up. The gigs are just fun; it’s filled with energy. I always like to say we have a great time regardless of anyone else. It’s never work for us. It’s always just pure enjoyment, and I think soul and funk Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival at Creekside Park, 117 Mill St., Gahanna 9 p.m. Friday; festival runs Friday through Sunday $7 on Friday and Saturday, $10 on Sunday; $21 for a three-day pass; free for children age 11 and younger www.creekside bluesandjazz.com

that translates really well to the audience. I think the audience can tell we’re having fun and they have fun, too.

What can people expect at your shows?

We move from song to song to song. There isn’t a lot of talking. Especially at the Creekside Festival — we start at 9 (p.m.) and don’t stop until 11 (p.m.). It’s a solid wall of songs. It’s that constant force of energy.
