Man killed by plane’s propeller

A 79-year-old man was struck and killed by an airplane propeller Saturday in Knox County.

Larry Hoover of Millerspor­t in Fairfield County was injured after starting his 1941 Aeronca 65-CA, a single-engine, fixed-wing airplane, at about 1:30 p.m. at Wynkoop Airport, south of Mount Vernon.

A medical helicopter transporte­d Hoover to Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center, where he died just before 6 p.m.

The State Highway Patrol’s Mount Gilead post is investigat­ing the death. The Federal Aviation Administra­tion, Mount Vernon Fire and the Knox County sheriff’s office assisted at the scene.
