A motorcycle-versus-deer crash Saturday in Marion County claimed the life of a Powell woman.

Cheryl Hollinger, 60, was a passenger on the 2017 Harley Davidson. Her husband, Paul Hollinger, 50, was driving, headed south on Route 98.

The collision occurred at about 9 p.m. near milepost 15 in Scott Township, northeast of Marion, according to the State Highway Patrol’s Marion post.

A deer attempted to cross the roadway. The motorcycle struck it and Mr. Hollinger over-corrected, crashing the motorcycle into a ditch alongside the roadway, troopers said.

The couple was transported to OhioHealth Marion General Hospital, where Mrs. Hollinger later died. Mr. Hollinger is in stable condition, a hospital employee said Sunday afternoon.

Neither rider was wearing a helmet, troopers said.

The Marion County sheriff’s office, Marion Township EMS and First Consolidated EMS assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
