New park adds luster to central Ohio
It was wonderful to read the Tuesday Dispatch article “New park may emerge” about the possible development of our 20th Metro Park in the quarry land north of Trabue Road. That site, when developed under the careful, professional aegis of the Metro Parks District, might become a real ornament to the network of urban and rural parks available to the central Ohio community.
The site could offer both proximity to the central city, and the beauty and grace of one of the best remaining “wild” spaces in central Ohio, similar to the recently developed Scioto Audubon park adjacent to Downtown.
I came to central Ohio in 1955, to Ohio State University. My wife is a native, from Canal Winchester. One of our family’s continuing joys of life here is the Metro Parks System. Since its inception, it has planned, built and maintained a truly superb system of public parks to enhance our quality of life.
I can think of no better entity to entrust with the handling of this proposed “deal” than the Metro Parks system. Its competence, professionalism and sensitivity to the management of complex priorities in these matters assures that the results will be outstanding. Also, officials are absolutely committed to responsibility to the public good.
We can be assured that this project will not produce any distasteful, corrupt folly like the awful “deal” by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources that might result in the destruction of the Sawmill Wetlands.
Speed the day when the citizens may enjoy a newly developed 20th Metro Park, along the Scioto River.
