Do you recognize this sock? A man walked into the Speedway at 6425 E. Broad St. on the Far East Side early Monday and pulled a handgun, wrapped in a white sock, out of his pants.

The robber told the clerk: “No disrespect, give me all the money.” He took the money and ordered the clerk to the back of the store, then ran away, Columbus police said.

The robber is described as a black man between 40 and 46 years old with a salt and pepper beard. The sock was described as white.

With friends like this ...

He learned a lesson, all right.

A Gahanna resident called police to say his home had been burglarized and that the thief had stolen his television, among other things.

After a time, he told police that there was, indeed, no burglar. The “victim” had left the door unlocked and his roommate had hidden the television to teach him a lesson.

“No actual theft,” the report said.

All in the family

A family that commits crime together...

A woman and her son were accused of firing handguns at a vehicle with six people in it in North Linden, at Genessee Avenue and Dresden Street, on July 5. Columbus police said the mother was identified by witnesses, and the son made “spontaneous utterances” admitting to the shooting. Police filed search warrants to search a car and a home.
