Headlines don’t define Muslims
ISIS, Boko Haram, Al Qaeda, Taliban, Al Nusra, Hamas, and Hezbollah are just a few groups that might come to mind when I utter the word “Muslim.” Unfortunately, this is the only view many have about Islam.
Many Muslims celebrate the American ideals of peace, freedom and loyalty, contrary to what some in the media say. From Friday through Sunday, Ahmadi Muslims around the world will gather in the United Kingdom to celebrate the ideals we have championed for more than 100 years: peace, loyalty, and freedom. The true Islamic Khalifa, His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad, will preside over this gathering. In this gathering, he will preach the ideals of peace, loyalty and freedom.I invite all who are curious about Islam to learn from a true Islamic Khalifa. The Jalsa Salana, held in the United Kingdom, will be streamed live on alislam.org and will also be available on YouTube. There won’t be a lot of news coverage, because it doesn’t fit the narrative that sells. Readers should watch and learn for themselves.
Hassan Mirza Worthington one failed, huge government program with another one.
Conservatives did not vote for that. They voted for a repeal of Obamacare and innovative, free-market solutions to replace it. Health care has been a hodgepodge of government involvement, complicated regulations and corporate welfare for decades. We should create a marketplace where government is out of the health-care business and individuals are firmly in control.
The market will innovate, and good free-market solutions already exist. Instead of insurance, consumers could opt for a health-care cost-sharing program like MediShare or Liberty Health Share, which already qualify as health-care coverage under Obamacare. It’s not for everyone but for the young and mostly healthy. I was accepted as a member with pre-existing conditions of high blood pressure and cholesterol. Monthly premiums are very low, there are no doctor/hospital limitations and deductibles/co-pays are minimal. They even provide discounts for dental, vision and drugs, though the networks for those are narrow.
General-practitioner groups are forming to offer low cost monthly “memberships” that provide unlimited access to care and reduced pricing for medications and services. Get rid of regulations stifling the sale of insurance across state lines and the creation of truly functioning, national high-risk pools. With increased competition, hospitals and other care facilities would be encouraged to post price lists for services to allow consumers to price-shop for medical care like many other services. Then focus supplements and financial aid — not insurance — on the most severe cases of low-income, chronic illness and mental-health issues. Get government out of health care once and for all.
Let the free market innovate and serve consumers. If Republicans focus on those kind of solutions, they will succeed.
